The Hidden Fear Controlling Women's Lives

What if the fear that has quietly shaped your life – your choices, your relationships, your sense of yourself – was never really yours? This book names it. And shows you the way through.

I didn't set out to write this book

When I saw two pink lines on that test, my body froze. Not with joy. Not even with shock, really. With terror. A deep, physical, full-body terror that I had absolutely no framework for understanding.

And then I miscarried. And what came after the grief – quietly, shamefully, undeniably – was relief.

What kind of woman feels relief after losing a baby?

That question haunted me for years. It sat in the background of every conversation about motherhood, every pregnancy announcement from a friend, every time someone asked me when I was going to have children. I couldn't explain it. I just knew something was deeply, fundamentally wrong with me.

Except it wasn't. And that's what this book is about.

That question became the doorway into everything – into tokophobia, into Reproductive Anxiety and Dread, into a fear so intense and so body-based that it takes over your entire nervous system before your conscious mind even gets a look in. I discovered that what I was experiencing had a name. And that millions of women were living the same story, in silence, every single day.

I wrote this book because too many women carry this fear alone, believing it means something is wrong with them. It doesn't. Your body is trying to tell you something. And once you understand what that something is, everything changes.

You're not crazy. Your body is trying to tell you something.

What this book is really about

What if the fear shaping your life isn't in your head – it's in your body?

For generations, women have silenced their fear of pregnancy, childbirth, and their own biology. They've pushed it down, explained it away, or simply never had the words for it. Beneath that silence lies something real: a body-based fear that Alexia calls Reproductive Anxiety and Dread – and it is far more common than anyone has been willing to admit.

Betrayed By Your Biology exposes the unseen emotional inheritance that gets passed through women's bodies. Drawing on her own lived experience, the stories of hundreds of women she has worked with, and over a decade of research and practice, Alexia offers a radical new framework for understanding what is actually going on when a woman's body reacts to pregnancy and birth with dread rather than excitement.

Inside, you'll find:

  • A clear explanation of tokophobia and Reproductive Anxiety and Dread (RAD) – what they are, where they come from, and why they feel so physical
  • The biological and emotional mechanisms behind the fear – and why willpower and positive thinking can't touch it
  • How fear of pregnancy and birth quietly shapes women's life choices – from relationships to career to identity
  • Real stories from women who have lived this – told with honesty and care
  • A framework for understanding your own fear – and the first steps toward clearing it

This is not a book about motherhood. It's about the woman behind it. The one whose fear was never taken seriously, never named, and never given the attention it deserved.

Your body was never the enemy. And fear was never the truth.
